5 End of Summer Vacations You Might Not Have Though Of
Whether it just slipped by or the job took up too much time or for whatever reason, the summer vacation just didnt happen this year. But its not too late. Theres still plenty of time and its this time of year when the traditional summer vacation spot has fewer tourists. So few that youll really be able to enjoy your visit even more.
San Diego. Unless youve lived there, you probably dont know about June Gloom in and around San Diego. June gloom is the name given to the low-hanging sea layer that shadows the sun. No sunny beaches in the height of summer and sometimes its actually a little cool. Come September however, the June gloom is gone and the sun is out once again. But this time with fewer beach goers.
Philadelphia. Never been to the City of Brotherly Love? Philadelphia has some of the most museums, parks and historical attractions per capita than any other city in America. Lodging prices begin to go down come August and you can enjoy lower prices over all. For history buffs, few cities can match the attractions Philly offers.
Any Colonial Town. Throughout the Northeast, there are colonial towns founded centuries ago. From old churches to historical architecture, cities and towns all along the coast can each have their own story to tell. Take a drive up the coast and visit towns from South Carolina all the way up through Maine. You dont have to take the entire trip but any stop along the way will be a rewarding one.
Carlsbad. Carlsbad, New Mexico is somewhat remote and really not a stopping point on the way to anywhere else. Its a destination city and home to one of the worlds most famous caves. Carlsbad Caverns National Park is just 18 miles away from the city of Carlsbad and you can tour the caves on your own or take a guided tour. Hotels are cheap, too, this time of year.
Rocky Mountains. As summer ends and we approach the fall, many begin thinking about Colorado and ski season. But if youve never visited the Rocky Mountains in the summer youre missing out. The mountains are not only majestic but you can take a ski lift to the top of each resort and take in the natural beauty you can only see in the summertime.
