7 WAYS TO GET YOUR KIDS OUTDOORS

Okay, we can all probably remember spending plenty of time exploring the outdoors, whether its in the park, at the lake or at the baseball field. But today, too many kids arent taking advantage of the outdoors and too busy with their smartphone and iPads. Kids need exercise and interaction with one another but its getting increasingly difficult with all the distractions in our digitized society. Here are 10 things you can do to get your kid outside.

And just in time for fall, who can remember the fun of jumping into a pile of leaves? Yep, this is still in the top 10 and you probably dont even have to suggest it. Instead, your kids cant wait for you to quit raking the leaves so they can destroy the pile you just made. Have them take turns raking and creating a new pile.

Take some small toys or figurines and plant them in the backyard, buried a couple of inches below the surface. Make your own treasure map and hand them a spade or large spoon and tell them to go find their treasure.

Go buy a bird feeder and a book about local birds. Have your children wait quietly outside for the birds to visit and have them write down each bird that comes for a  bite to eat.

If its time to go to the store or run a local errand, instead of getting into the car, have your child walk along with you.

Make up your own scavenger hunt. You can do this at the park or your own backyard. Kids love this activity and the more clues you hide, the longer theyll be outdoors.

Do you have a tent? Then get it out of the garage and set it up in the backyard. Kids love to play in tents so get it out of storage and let your children enjoy.

Go to the mall and bring home some large boxes. Cut out some doors and windows and place them in your yard. Your kids will spend hours playing house outdoors.
