WAYS TO BRING FAMILY TOGETHER- NO MATTER WHERE EVERYONE LIVES
When we reminisce about our younger years, the best times are those with family. Sure, best friends are best friends but nothing replaces family. In todays ever-distracting world, its easy to fall into the trap of staring into a smart phone when your son or husband is sitting right next to you, but keeping a family together no matter where everyone lives starts early. This means having meals together at home and regular dates where the family enjoys indoor or outdoor activities together.
Close By Family
For those who have family members close by, youre already at an advantage. Have a regular family night on one day of the week if possible. Just make it a new date and have everyone over for dinner or go see a movie. Log onto the internet and look up some fun recipes and invite everyone over to help cook and eat. The more the merrier. Raucous, fun gatherings make family get-togethers something to look forward to.
Not So Close By Family
This is the challenge, especially when the first child leaves for college and can be several hours and a few time zones away. Everyone today has a computer that comes with a camera and mic. Take advantage of the various online meetup applications like Google+ or others that link everyone up on the same screen for a chat. And set up a regular date and time for everyone to join so family members can schedule around it.
Does your son or daughter have a favorite meal you cooked for them when they lived at home? Nothing tastes like home more than home-cooking. If there is a favorite recipe of yours that you made, write it down and encourage them to make it and share with friends.
Getting and keeping a family together means consistently coming up with new ideas to share on a regular day of the week or month. It might take a little practice at first to get into the routine, but regular communication and visits creates fond memories.
